DeSantis cancels 1 of 2 executions that were set for Tuesday - Tampa Bay Times — Florida Governor Cancels Execution Warrant in Unprecedented Decision

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has cancelled a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was found guilty of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has withdrawn a death warrant. A second execution was still set to go ahead Tuesday.

The move came days after a problematic lethal injection involving Christa Pike brought new questions over Florida's lethal injection process. The governor gave no immediate public explanation for cancelling the order for Thompson in particular.
